Rating system

Gomoku rating system is adopted from the Polish one – because it enables better comparison of players‘ quality of play.

  1. Number of points gained (i.e. rating) of a player is distinguished between:
    • established (E, Established)
    • temporary (T, Novice)
  2. In order to get an established rating, the player has to:
    • play at least 10 games against players whose rating is established.
    • win at least 3 points against players whose rating is established.
  3. Changes of the rating:
    • if two E players play against each other, the amount of points gained is counted according to the Figure No.1.
    • if a T player plays against an E player, the amount of points gained is counted only for a T player according to the formula in Article No.5.
    • a game between two T players isn’t counted towards rating at all.
  4. Player’s rating is changed once the tournament is finished. Each player enters the tournament with his/her old rating which does not change during the tournament. T player is considered as a T player until the end of the tournament even if (s)he accomplishes Article No.2 during the tournament.
  5. For E players is valid the following formula:
    • Rn = Rst + (250 * (W-L)/N)

    • Rn = new rating
Rst = average rating of E players
W = number of won games against E players
L = number of lost games against E players
N = number of games played against E players

  6. Due to absence of rating system are the first two tournaments considered as established. The following formula has been chosen for establishing the rating:
    • Rn = 1600 + (400 * (W-L)/N)

    • Rn = new rating
W = number of won games in both tournaments
L = number of lost games in both tournaments
N = number of played games

  7. The amount of points gained between E players is counted according to the following formula:
    • Rn = Ro + G

    • Rn = new rating
      Ro = old rating
Z = the amount of points gained/lost according to the Figure No.1
